Smoke

The fires are dying
Glowing embers in the night
Where once was lightning
Now just atmospherics

Signals wane the radio is fading in and out
Windows shattered and the glass is lying on the ground

I’m looking tired
Feeling older than my years might indicate
Still you’ll stand by me
And all my fears just dissipate
The smoke is clearing

This misadventure
Claiming gods were on our side
We’re no more special
Than the thieves and clerics

Token homes and broken bones were traded in for points
Left in tatters by the past and counting out the coins
